Primary and detailed list of necessities
This is a more precise and detailed list of the items that helped me in my personal journey! I made this list to help you guys avoid over packing or under packing! I hope it helps you and if you are a veteran doll you are more than welcome to let us know what helped you and what didn't! Also, let us know what medications YOUR surgeon prescribed you. Read on
Arnicare topicals offer everyday pain relief to relieve aches and stiffness, swelling and discoloration from bruises. It contains one active ingredient—Arnica Montana, a homeopathic medicine that has been used for centuries as a natural pain reliever. Arnicare relieves your aches and pains while assisting the body’s natural healing process.
Arnica Gel and Pellets were one of my personal favorites. It was my go to product whenever I was feeling pain and/or discomfort, and was not time for my narcotic pain reliever. After a few days I actually ONLY used arnica for pain because I personally don’t like to be on medications for too long as they make my stomach hurt. The gel was GOD sent, especially when it was time for my lymphatic massages. Now don't get me wrong, the massages still hurt profusely the first few times. However, I find that applying the gel at least 15 minutes before my massages helped ease the pain. It also helped to diminish my post-surgical bruises. I took in the tablets between doses of my heavier pain meds.
Bromelain is an enzyme found in pineapple juice and in the pineapple stem. Bromelain is used for reducing swelling (inflammation), after surgery or injury. It is also used for removing dead and damaged tissue after a burn (debridement), preventing the collection of water in the lung (pulmonary edema), relaxing muscles, stimulating muscle contractions, slowing clotting, improving the absorption of antibiotics. As if that isn't enough to convince you how great it is, it can also assist the body in getting rid of fat! Of course the best source of anything is best naturally, so the intake of pineapple after surgery would definitely help your body heal faster and reduce your swelling. You should expect to have swelling even a year after your surgery. So I hope you love pineapples! It will be your best friend!
Iron is an essential mineral, the main reason we need it is because it helps transport oxygen throughout the body. Although I don't think I need to explain the importance of Oxygen, I will stress how the quality of it can affect your surgery and you’re healing.
Iron and hemoglobin go hand in hand; Hemoglobin is the substance in red blood cells that carries oxygen from your lungs to transport it throughout your body. Hemoglobin represents about 2/3 of the body’s iron. If you don't have enough iron, your body can’t make enough healthy oxygen-carrying red blood cells. A lack of red blood cells is called iron deficiency anemia. If you are taking iron pills, sss Tonic, folic acid or any other type of iron supplements, it is important for you to tell your surgeon of each one. Also, only consider taking these supplements after you have gotten a physical exam by your primary care physician and you are advised on the need of these medicines. If your hemoglobin is around 13.0 already you shouldn't need any of these items. It is very important that you learn the symptoms of iron overdose to avoid taking too much iron. Surgeons will not operate unless your Hemoglobin is at least at 13.
Here’s a list of iron rich foods:
• Dark Chocolate
• Pumpkin seeds
• Beef / Red meat
Adult wipes/ Washcloths
This is extremely important! Remember you will NOT be able to shower for several days. Though the amount of days you are unable to shower completely depends on your surgeon, it will be at least 3-4 days until your next shower following your surgery. Therefore, bringing lots of these wipes will be essential for you hygiene. If you are allergic to wipes or if you just don't like them please bring a pack of washcloths to wet with warm water and use to clean your body. You can also spray them with waterless spray soaps.
Pads (at least 4 packs) or Foam
The reason pads (especially poise pads) are recommended is because they are used to avoid getting burns. These are placed between the wife beaters (under shirt) and the faja (girdle). You will use a significant amount of pads during the first week. The first week they will help soak up any liquids and blood the body discards. Second week will be mainly used for padding purposes.
Gauze will be used on your incisions. If you had a tummy tuck, they will be placed on your belly button for protection.
It is very difficult to urinate while using your faja (girdle). Even if your garment has a hole for ease of urination it is still very uncomfortable. A urination device is recommended to avoid soiling of your garment and avoid infections by maintaining yourself clean.
Laundry detergent (if allergic to most brands)
Although we will be cleaning your garments once every other day at Bodied Recuperation Spa, it is advised to bring your own detergent if you have sensitive skin and you are allergic to certain detergents.
Maxi dresses (at least 5-8 )
This will be the easiest and fastest way for you to get dressed. Dominican Republic is an extremely hot country during most of the year. Therefore, it would be wise for you to bring along a couple of maxi dresses to throw on to go out to your follow up appointments or even to lounge around. Leggings and tank tops are a great alternative as well.
Open front pajamas/robe
It will be difficult for you to raise your arms over your head and to bend over to put on pants. What worked best for me was to bring button down pajamas. That way I was able to dress and undress myself with ease.
Compression socks are worn during surgery and after surgery to avoid blood clots.
You will want to pack socks in your hospital bag. It can get very cold in the hospital and in the recovery rooms overnight. Also, you will wake up freezing from the effects of the anesthesia. Slippers will be for used at the hospital as well as the recovery house.
White men tank tops/ under shirts
It is recommended by most physicians to bring undershirts to be worn under your faja. This is very important as it will avoid burns to the epidermis.
Pain mediciation from the US
Pain medication from Dominican Republic isn't as strong as the narcotics from the USA. So, if you can get your hands on Motrin 800, Percocet, Oxycodone or any other strong pain meds from here GET THEM! You will thank me later!
